Student School Hours
Class of 2014 Parent Information Night
Avon High School will have an information night for 8th grade parents on Monday, February 8, from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm. The opening session will be in the high school auditorium, which will include information on the high school schedule for freshmen. After the opening session, we will have break-out sessions covering such topics as the honors/AP program, athletics/clubs & organizations, achieving high school success, students with special needs, and the freshmen pre-enrollment process. This is a great opportunity for parents to learn more about the high school and to help you get your 8th grader ready for the transition to high school. You don’t want to miss this event! See you on the 8th!
**If you are unable to attend, please visit our website (http://hs.avon-schools.org/) for posted handouts from the meeting.
New Immunization Requirements
The Indiana State Department of Health has added 3 more immunization requirements for 6th – 12th graders beginning with the 2010 – 2011 school year.
Students entering grades 6 – 12 must have appropriate documentation of the following vaccinations: Tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap); meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4 – Menactra); 2 chickenpox (varicella) vaccinations appropriately spaced per CDC guidelines, or documentation of disease history, or laboratory evidence of immunity.
In response to that, the Hendricks County Health Department will be holding a walk in clinic at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds, on February 18th, 2010 from 3 pm – 9 pm. This FREE clinic is for current 5th – 11th graders that still need any or all of these vaccinations, to be current for this next school year. All children will be required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and bring a complete vaccination record. If parents do not have a vaccination record, they can contact their child’s doctor for an updated record or call the school nurse for a copy of the school record. Please be prepared to wait in long lines and wear clothing that allows easy access to the upper arms. For planning purposes, families must pre-register with the Hendricks County Health Department by calling 317-745-9214 by February 12th.
